Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny, has this evening (Friday) expressed his sympathy on the sad passing of Liam Clancy, saying that Ireland has lost a brilliant musician.
“I hugely regret the passing of Liam Clancy. His death really does mark the end of an era. Liam’s contribution to Irish music and culture was simply outstanding.
“As a member of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem, they revolutionised ballad and folk music in Ireland and later with Tommy Makem, Liam provided outstanding entertainment and promotion of his country.
“I recall as a child seeing the Clancy Brothers in Castlebar on one of their first visits having formed their group. They were immense and it is a memory I will always treasure.
“Ireland has lost a brilliant musician and on behalf of the Fine Gael Party, I extend our sympathies to his wife Kim and his family on his sad passing. Ar Dheis De go raibh a Anam.”
