Fine Gael Environment Spokesman, Phil Hogan TD, has expressed his disappointment at the Taoiseach’s refusal today to sanction an investigation by the Comptroller & Auditor General (C&AG) into the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA).
Deputy Hogan raised the issue in the Dáil urging the Taoiseach to adopt the Fine Gael Bill that would allow the C&AG to get involved.
“The DDDA stinks to high heavens and we have all read in recent times of the massive splurge of expenditure on travel and entertainment there.
“An investigation by the C&AG is badly needed but John Gormley has said on several occasions that, legally, the C&AG cannot get involved with the Authority. However, an amendment to the Dublin Docklands Development Authority Act will allow the C&AG to deal with these matters.
“The DDDA is already on the Order Paper and Fine Gael has an amendment to allow the C&AG get involved. Despite this, in the Dáil today the Taoiseach refused to sanction this. This is beyond disappointing and once again points to Fianna Fáil and the Greens determination to force a whitewash on the goings on at the Docklands.”
